About the Clinical Perfusionist team
The Clinical Perfusionist team within the Operating Suite provides a service to the Cardiac Surgery & Liver Transplantation Units and to other surgical units as required. The Austin Perfusion Service has a strong commitment to professional support and education of staff and continuously ensuring our patients always receive excellence in care.
The Clinical Perfusion team also provides support to ICU for ECMO life support, (Veno/veno and Arterio /veno) cell saver and Intra-Aortic balloon pumping as required. The Cardiac department performs approximately 500+ cardiac procedures per year.
About the role
As an accredited Clinical Perfusionist, you will play a pivotal role in a dynamic team, delivering a comprehensive range of perfusion services to support cardiac surgery and other specialties as needed.
You will collaborate as a key member of a multidisciplinary team alongside Cardiac Surgery, the Department of Anaesthesia, and ICU to deliver exceptional patient care. You will identify opportunities for quality improvement and work with the Cardiac Surgery team to develop and implement effective improvement plans.
A regular day will see you:
- Operation of heart-lung machines
- Management of ECMO/ECLS systems
- Insertion and monitoring of intra-aortic balloon pumps
- Administration of cell-saving and autotransfusion techniques for perfusion-related procedures
About you
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- Current Certificate of Clinical Perfusion (CCP) awarded by the Australian and New Zealand Board of Perfusion (ANZBP), or Eligible for Phase 1 CCP
- Minimum 5 years perfusion experience
- Extensive, demonstrated, credentialed knowledge and experience in all aspects of perfusion practices and techniques
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively in a multidisciplinary team
