The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, is looking to hire a Clinical Trainee.
The Perfusion department at the Alfred provides a comprehensive and state-of-the-art Perfusion Service in the treatment of cardiac and respiratory diseases, working in close collaboration with the relevant services within the Directorate of Alfred Heart & Lung (Department of Cardiothoracic & Transplantation, Department of Cardiology and Department of Respiratory Medicine) as well as with the Intensive Care and Emergency Departments. Involvement in clinical research and development projects further complements the Departmental workload.
Position Summary
Working under the direct supervision of senior perfusionists, the role involves the development of knowledge, technical skills and professional competencies required to become an accredited Clinical Perfusionist with the Australian and New Zealand College of Perfusion. The successful candidate will assist in the set-up, operation and monitoring of Cardiopulmonary Bypass. Furthermore, they will have the unique opportunity to develop skills in advanced cardiac support techniques including Ventricular Assist Devices, ECMO and XVIVO organ procurement. The successful candidate will also be required to participate in education, quality improvement and research within the department.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Bachelor of Science or Applied Science
- Eligibility to enrol in the Masters of Cardiovascular Perfusion course with Monash University.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team in an often-challenging environment, exhibiting initiative, strength of character, and facilitative qualities.
