ASM 2026 Simulation Sessions

The simulation program will be delivered across three dedicated simulation spaces, covering both ECMO and Cardiopulmonary Bypass, with each space supported by one of the participating medical device companies. Scenarios will be co-designed and co-delivered by the company and a Simulation Committee member, ensuring that each session is both technically robust and aligned with broader educational goals for the perfusion profession.

Scenarios will be developed around three key themes:

Optimisation
Exploring how we optimise patient selection, pre-bypass planning, initiation of support, case management, weaning and post-operative considerations across CPB and ECMO practice.

Communication
Strengthening communication, role clarity and shared decision-making within high-performing teams working in complex and dynamic clinical environments.

Crisis Management
Preparing clinicians to recognise, respond to and manage disaster events, equipment issues and high-risk clinical deterioration in a safe simulated environment.

Each participating company will have the opportunity to design four simulation scenarios, which will be facilitated during the ASM. These scenarios will be developed in partnership with the Simulation Committee to support effective scenario design, appropriate learning objectives, and a structured prebriefing and debriefing process. The expectation is that the company and the simulation committee members will engage in several planning meetings in the lead up to the ASM.

Across the day, four sessions will run in each simulation space, with each session lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Sessions will include a prebrief, immersive simulation experience and facilitated debrief, with 3-4 participants booked into each session to maximise engagement, interaction and learning.
